Florence Sights, Sounds and Hotels
Piazza del Duomo accommodates a cluster of world famous monuments in a great green stretch of land. The spectacular Duomo, fourth-largest cathedral in the world, governs the Florence skyline; the Baptistry, originally a pagan temple is one of Florence’s oldest buildings; the Campanile, otherwise known as the Leaning Tower of Pisa; and the Cemetery are the four masterpieces of medieval architecture which largely manipulated monumental art in Italy between the 11th and 14th centuries. The Duomo Museum is at the rear of the cathedral and exhibits panels taken from the original doors of the Baptistry, equipment with which the dome was built, the death mask of Brunelleschi and a notable sculpture anthology, which include some of Michelangelo’s works.
There is much to absorb besides for the Florence Piazza del Duomo, and the best way is to pack your travel bag and go to see for yourself. Take your pick from some of the quality Florence hotels and maybe brush up on your knowledge of Florence culture and before you know it, you’ll be gazing at some the world’s finest architecture.
